students berate Governor over non-payment of bursaries

Students under the aeigis of Imo Students Association (ISA), Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) chapter, have berated the Governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha over what they described as delay in the payment of their bursary awards.

It started last week as members of the association in the university convened for a weekly meeting at the prestigious Love Garden on campus.

During the meeting, no fewer than 100 students complained that they needed their bursary awards as indigenes of Imo State.

According to them, their anger is based on the fact that the payment of their bursary awards had been delayed unnecessarily for decades.

They however, swiftly threatened to make known their grievances through a peaceful protest soonest.

Speaking at the congress, the President, Comrade Chibuike Odunze said; “Since the state has decided to withhold our rights which is the bursary awards, we will embark on a peaceful protest to make known our request,” adding “we must also calm down and logically look for the way forward on how to retrieve our bursary awards.

We must remind the government of Imo State by the peaceful protest of the proverb which says that to be forewarned is to be fore- armed.”

Meanwhile, the students also lamented that Gov. Okorocha has left them out of the good work he is doing in Imo State, by paying the school fees, awarding bursary to the students of Imo State University (IMSU) and also primary and secondary schools in Imo State, thus neglecting the fact that they are also Imo indigenes and students in federal schools.

They also made references to students of other states in their school, whose various state governments pay bursary awards to.

They cited Enugu, Delta and Ebonyi states as practical examples.
