Pupils urged to make right decisions

A foundation, Total Child Education Foundation, has urged pupils to always make right decisions that will positively affect them, noting that if they fail to make such, especially as it affects their career, they would not be great.

At a one-day seminar organised by the foundation for SS1 pupils in Lagos, the Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr. Bankole Sadipe, stressed that the forum was a good opportunity for the pupils to rob minds with professionals.

He spoke on the theme, ‘Choosing my Tomorrow’s Today’ and lamented the dearth of capable mentors in the country, which, he said, had given rise to high rate of social and moral vices in the society.

He said people ended up becoming what they never wanted as a result of wrong choices.

Sadipe explained that the choice of SS1 pupils was because they were at a stage where they would make certain key decisions that would either positively or negatively affect their lives.

He added that for this reason, “The foundation, through the forum, is offering them something tangible which they will always remember many years to come.”

The guest speaker, a motivational speaker, Mr. Olakunle Sorinyan, advised the pupils to take their studies seriously if they hoped to become great men and women, stressing that God can take anybody from the dungeon to the palace.

Sorinyan said, “If you don’t make decisions that are good for you, you will never be great. You have to do things about the kind of life you lead.

Among you here will be great scientists, doctors, lawyers, engineers etc. You can only achieve this if you take your studies seriously and also learn to ask questions on what you don’t understand. “You need to learn to follow instructions of elders who have gone ahead of you.

If you don’t join bad gangs, in the next 10 years you are going to be great. “Whatever you are going to be is your choice. Your success depends on your education, so take it very serious.”

Another speaker, Mr. Bill Gaise, an alumnus of Aguda Grammar School, counselled the pupils to aim for outstanding performances at all times in their studies, saying their performance is the only thing that will separate them from their colleagues.

“Education is the most important thing you can get, go for the best in education. It will separate you from your colleagues.

Planning is also an important element, you have to be a strategic planner and this will lead you to success in your career pursuits,” he added.
